The
Village of Lodi is considering exchanging 27 acres of wetland
for 27 acres of upland with the Medina County Park District. The
exchange would be part of a water quality improvement project.
The park district is currently discussing the opportunity with
the Ohio EPA. The park district is already purchasing 49 acres
adjacent to West Drive and states in a letter to Mayor Tom Wilson
the park’s desire to give some of this property back to Lodi for
wetland near the sewer plant. The project would run in conjunction
with a new sewer plant to be constructed in Lodi.
The Medina County Board of Commissioners has made an agreement
with the Medina County Agricultural Society, allowing for a $100,000
loan. The agricultural society would use the money to construct
a new exhibition building on fairgrounds. The amount serves as
a local match for a grant recently awarded from the Ohio Department
of Agriculture. The loan agreement calls for five annual payments
to the county starting July 10, 2001. Each payment would come
to $20,000.
An attack on some sheep in Harrisville Township has resulted in
the Medina County Board of Commissioners paying the farmer $100
for the loss of two sheep. The Medina County Dog Warden was unable
to decipher whether a coyote or dog attacked the sheep.
Nadine
Yaniec has retired from the Medina County Auditor’s Office after
29 years of service. Nadine began serving the county in 1971 and
watched the office grow from 10 employees to more than 50.
The
Medina County Office of Older Adults sees growth in the senior
community and expands its meal delivery service to all 17 townships.
The
Medina County Recorder’s Office now has a Web site. Residents
can obtain living will forms as well as durable power of attorney
for health care forms by logging onto www.recorder.co.medina.oh.us.
The site also provides real estate information for Medina County
sites. A history of an individual pieced of property is available
from 1983 to the present.
The
Medina County Economic Development Corporation has appointed an
enterprise zone manager to administer the enterprise zone program
in the county.
The
Millbrook Golf Course on Richmond Road has applied for a D1 permit,
allowing for beer on the premises until 1 a.m.
The
Medina County Board of Commissioners has adopted the 2001 tax
budget, reaching approximately $30 million. This budget is only
an estimate used to create the final budget at the end of the
year.
The
Medina County Engineers Office has been given permission by the
county to appropriate property for the extension of Jefferson
Street.
More
than $95,000 has been awarded to the county by the Ohio Supreme
Court for court mediation services.
The
county and townships continue to meet about electric deregulation.
