Medina
County Commissioner Candidates -
Geissman vs. Duke
Patricia
Geissman (R)
The Messenger: Why should voters cast you their ballots?
Geissman (R): “Because I’ve kept my promises. When I was elected,
I promised to remain involved in the community and keep a high
visibility. I have worked to be accessible to our residents.
“I also think I have a strong record of resolving tough issues.
I believe my colleagues will tell you I have a high degree of
professionalism, integrity, trust and a hard work ethic.”
The Messenger: Please name three specific things you would accomplish
if reelected.
Geissman (R): “I would work with the Medina County Veterans’
Service Office to create new administrative offices.
“Number two, I would work with the Medina County Juvenile Court
to establish a new shelter for non-delinquent youth. New Horizons,
the shelter we use now is in bad repair. I would want to work
on this perhaps before the end of the year.
“And, I would continue a county focus on local officials in
terms of planning and growth.
“As commissioners, we can’t tell communities to plan or rezone.
“But, working with the Medina County Planning Commission, we
can help local elected officials with those decisions through
offering resources and guidance.”
Pat Geissman is seeking reelection. She is a full-time county
commissioner and a resident of the Village of Lodi.
Phil Duke (D)
The Messenger: Why should voters cast you their ballots?
Duke (D): “I want to promote responsible growth in Medina County
and I have a plan.
“My idea for a Medina County Growth Congress is to form a group
of people to work collectively for more responsible growth in
Medina. The group would not only be made up of elected officials
but with representatives from area hospitals, schools, agriculture,
even developers.
“My hope would be to promote more responsible growth and create
a good balance between the industrial, agricultural and residential
sectors.”
The Messenger: Please name three specific things you hope to
accomplish if elected.
Duke (D): “Number one, I would get the Medina County Growth
Congress going and see it work.
“Number two, I want to work with the Medina County Sheriff’s
Department to create a full-time fire dispatcher and to increase
the sheriff’s patrol car dispatchers.
“And, number three, I want to improve the animal shelter. The
shelter is in dire need of an upgrade and has been neglected
by the commissioners in the past several years. I intend to
give the shelter priority if I’m given the responsibility.”
Phil Duke is President, CEO, of Special Service Transportation,
Inc. in Brunswick. He lives in Medina Township.
