Representative
to Congress (13th District) Race

Sherrod
Brown (D):
“Number one, I want to continue fighting for the issues working
families care about. As the ranking Democrat on the Health and Environment
Subcommittee, I am fighting for Patients Rights to ensure access
to quality health care for all, and to let medical decisions be
made by doctors and patients, not insurance companies.
“I am fighting to lower the prices of prescription drugs, and to
include a prescription plan within the Medicare system for our seniors.
“I have worked diligently to balance the budget and reduce our national
debt, so our economy continues to grow.
“I believe I have the experience and ability to continue fighting
for the issues we all care about.
“Number two, three major issues facing voters in the upcoming election
are healthcare, the economy and education. I am committed to providing
a prescription drug plan for seniors within Medicare. Too many seniors
are making choices between food and medicine, and we can’t allow
that to continue.
“I’ve shown just how much our seniors are being gouged by drug manufacturers
by taking buses of seniors to Canada to by prescription drugs.
“People are saving hundreds of dollars on their prescriptions, but
we shouldn’t have to go across the border for affordable prescriptions.
“Deficit reduction and responsible federal spending are additional
priorities for our country. We must keep interest rates and inflation
low so we can create new investment opportunities to keep our economy
strong. We must raise the minimum wage so everyone can take advantage
of the strong economy.
“We must invest in our children by increasing funds for Head Start
and Childcare programs.
“We need to put more teachers in the classrooms, and make our schools
safer.”
Sherrod Brown is a resident of Lorain County.
Rick
Jeric (R)
“Why am I running?
“I am running because I truly love my family. I want the best
life has to offer for them. In the same way, each and every family
in my District deserves the same.
“How is that achieved? EDUCATION! EDUCATION! EDUCATION!
“I pledge, first of all, to be an example of true educational
leadership, to build bridges between the federal government, the
state government, local government, school boards and school officials.
I will make our schools examples of success, not failure.
“Secondly, I promise to preserve Social Security for all Americans.
I pledge to make sure the current politicians in Congress keep
their hands off our money. It must be used for Social Security,
and nothing else!
“Thirdly, quality health care must be maintained and available
for everyone. I would introduce legislation to create IHA’s (Individual
Healthcare Accounts). These accounts would be similar to IRA’s,
but the money set aside could only be used for medical reasons.
“Best of all, the money set aside would not be taxed, and would
NEVER be subject to tax, even when it is withdrawn for medical
purposes.
“Finally, I pledge to do away with abortion forever. Roe v. Wade
must be no more. The place I will start is with a ban on partial
birth abortions.
“The 13th District of Ohio is ready for a change. I have the energy,
drive and desire to be a more effective Congressman than my opponent.
The incumbent currently has a campaign fund with $1.2 million
in it.
“Where do you think that money came from? Not from you and me.
It came from Special Interests, who have bought their way into
the political process that bogs down Washington D.C. I come to
the people of this district with a clean slate.”
Rick Jeric is a resident of Aurora.
Mike
Chmura (L)
“We need a change in the way things are done. We need a new paradigm,
the present paradigm isn’t working. The current paradigm hasn’t
affected the current poverty rate. The whole thought process is
wrong headed.
“We have the democrats who basically are driving us to socialism
and the republicans who don’t do anything about it and don’t bring
about any kind of reform.
“The biggest reason to vote for me, I would bring the government
back to what the founding fathers intended. We have a lot of legislation
that usurps the natural responsibility of parents.
“Abortion laws, whether you are for or against the issue, laws
Sherrod Brown voted for, makes it ok for a guidance counselor
at school to take your kids to an abortion doctor without your
knowledge.
“Basically, usurping your authority as parents. Somebody has to
stand up for your basic rights.
“Number one, revamp Social Security through privatization in order
to obtain substantive return on our contributions while meeting
existing obligations to those retired and near retirement.
“Number two, decrease America's military intervention in foreign
affairs.
“Number three, promote a consistent life ethic.”
Mike Chmura is a resident of Medina.
