Charles
Calvert (R)
“Why should voters cast their ballots in my direction?
“It has been a privilege to serve as the state representative
for the people of Medina County.
“I have worked hard and listened to your concerns. I know you
want safe communities, good schools, lower taxes and good jobs.
“I stand on my record of accomplishments. I sponsored and passed
legislation banning GHB, a date rape drug. I brought hundreds
of thousands of dollars of state monies for conservation efforts
in Medina County.
“I initiated statewide Forums address “brain drain” and the need
for high-tech jobs to keep our college graduates in Ohio.
“I initiated steps to eliminate the ‘cap’ on the school funding
formula bringing additional state dollars to our schools. I supported
the elimination of the Estate Tax helping farmers keep their farms
in the family earning the Ohio Farm Bureau ‘Friend of Agriculture’
distinction.
“I have always believed in a strong sense of community. For myself,
Medina County is not just a location but rather the place I have
called home. It is where I belong.
It is where I grew up... it is where I raised my family. I want
to continue the work I started in my first term. I want to continue
to strengthen our communities for us, our children and future
generations. There is much more I can do and I hope I can count
on your support on November 7th.
“Name three things I would accomplish if reelected.”
“Number one, I will continue my efforts to find solutions to resolve
school funding issues. I currently serve on the Education Committee
and have used my fourteen years of school board experience and
financial background to bring additional school funding into the
county.
“Number two, to continue my efforts to stop ‘brain drain’ and
loss of high-technology companies for Ohio.
“I will provide the research and data obtained for the statewide
Forums to the General Assembly. I will sponsor legislation if
necessary to resolve the impediments impacting additional jobs
in Ohio.
“And, number three, I will continue to address and work on issues
impacting the lives of children and families. I will continue
my interaction with local human and social service agencies to
gain insight into those issues. I will continue my work to reform
foster care.”

Frank
Tibbitts (D)
“People should vote for me because, number one, I’m going to save
farmland in Medina County.
“As state representative, farmland preservation will be my goal.
Part of the problem has to do with the fact the residents don’t
understand the the Ohio Revised Code.
“I’m going to help the people of Medina by using the Ohio Revised
Code to preserve farmland.
“Number two, I want to see Issue 1 passed and then see matching
funds from buy agricultural easements for Medina County Conservation
and remove soil contamination.
“I want to see nature being used, not just digging contaminated
soil out and putting it someplace else.
“And, finally, I would like to see teaching programs where they
use testing as a guide and not as condemnation to teachers.
“The way it stands, if fourth graders don’t pass the proficiency,
they fail. It goes further than than that. If the students don’t
get high enough grades on the testing, the schools lose state
funding. This is a complex issue. I didn’t realize how complex
until I got into this race.
“Right now, the state of education is a total disaster. The Board
of Regents was appointed by the Governor to take care of this
problem and hasn’t yet.”

Bower (L)
“The main reason people should vote for me is because I will try
to get government out of as many facets of their lives as I can.
“As far as three specific ways I would accomplish my goal, I would
work to cut down on taxation, especially ending duel taxation.
“For instance, if you live in Medina and work in Akron, then both
systems have their hands in your pocket. I want to end this.
“Second, I want to end the taxpayer funding for these massive
sports coliseums and arenas. The taxpayer is picking up the tab
that even the multimillionaire choose not to pay for because of
good reason. These arenas aren’t moneymakers.
“If Al Lerner doesn’t think it’s a good deal to build an arena,
why should the taxpayers?”
“The ancient Egyptians built pyramids, we build this huge sports’
arenas.
“I would also work on eliminating this ridiculous E-check everyone
is roped into. If you look at the cars we drove 20 years ago and
the cars we are running today, in terms of emissions, the whole
thing is rather ridiculous.”
